About Me
I am keen to provide business focused advice to commercial clients and personal commitment to private individuals. I believe that lessons learned from legal challenges should be fed back into systems and procedures that aim to prevent these challenges arising in the future.
The purpose of this website is to provide further information on these training sessions and other events and to communicate the lessons learned from these legal challenges and new developments in the area of Employment Law and Health & Safety Law.
This ‘preventative’ process is delivered through in-house and external training and seminars that I have developed and delivered for a wide variety of clients. I also produce Legal Updates in the areas of Employment Law and Health and Safety Law to clients who wish to receive them. Sign up here to receive my Legal Updates.
Academic / Professional background:
I have been a Solicitor since November 1990 and provide a wide range of legal services to private and business clients as a consultant at England Palmer Solicitors. I am regulated in the provision of legal services by the Solicitors Regulation Authority.
Having studied Law and Economics at the School of Oriental and African studies, University of London, I went on to the College of Law in Lancaster Gate, to qualify as a solicitor.
After a number of years in practice, I undertook a Masters in Law degree at the London School of Economics. However, a growing involvement as a Health and Safety lawyer from a regulatory compliance perspective saw me pursue the National General Certificate in Occupational Safety and Health in 2004.
I am currently a Graduate Member of IOSH, the professional body representing Health & Safety practitioners in England and Wales, having achieved the NEBOSH Level 6 Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety Practice in 2005.
My legal practice has seen me develop a wide understanding of the legal issues affecting individuals, Local Authorities and Industry, having worked as a solicitor in private practice, within Local Government and for over 10 years as an in-house lawyer for one of the ‘Big Four’ supermarkets.
My practical legal experience enables me to provide my clients with advice on all aspects of general business law, such as Civil Litigation/Dispute Resolution and Contract law. However, my passion lays in supporting business and individuals on Employment law and Health and Safety law challenges.
My extensive experience in the retail sector includes Regulatory Compliance in the areas of ‘Retail law’, such as Food Safety, Consumer Protection, Price Control and Trading Standards.
I am the founding Chair of the Retail and Distribution Section of the South East Branch of IOSH, promoting the exchange of best practice amongst health and safety practitioners working within the retail and distribution sectors. I also sit on the Executive Committee of the South East Branch of IOSH.
I am pleased to provide legal advice to members of the Association of Convenience Stores, the Trade Association representing over 30,000 convenience store owners in England and Wales, on all legal aspects affecting their retail operations. This continuing involvement in the retail sector has resulted in me forming close links with Prestige Business Services Limited in the development of the Pbs Blueprint, a Human Resource, Health and Safety and general business law resource, designed for the convenience sector.
I am proud to be a member of the Law Society of England and Wales, the Kent Law Society, IOSH South East Branch, BNI Chislehurst and the Thames gateway (Kent) Chamber of Commerce.
